There are many reasons why bodybuilding style training is not ideal for anyone apart from those whose only goal is to gain maximum possible muscle size.

Some thoughts, very interesting, but yet I do still feel that there's little wrong with trying to locally increase your muscles mass to assist with karate, I mean some of the things will require more effort (obviously being a red belt means I haven't really done anything too draining), but I guess if you want to get to be able to fully get yourself in tuned with your body for maximum usage, but I doubt I'll ever need to. I can see your point, but all sports persons train with weights, athletes, wrestlers, boxers, even tennis players.

Weight training doesn't necessarily mean bodybuilding, you can use weights for power, strength and CV training.

This will help you develop a good strong core that will help with power, speed and of course strength. All essential in martial arts.
