That was well worth a watch.

Liked the defence from a slash across the throat, seems to have a good flow. Much better than stripping of the bo that I was taught in my late teens for the same movement. With practise I have seen that you do not hold a bo in the position necessary for this to be achieved when fighting. However on some recent investigation it is suggested that the current form of the kata was developed at the time the US marines were entering the country with the aid of force, ie rifles with bayonets. A bayonet strike would leave the rifle in the correct position to be stripped and then used on the opponent. However not having practise of the use of a rifle and bayonet this is only a theory.

Also really liked the last 2 age ukes and yame, that would also be worth a practise.

Would also be interesting to see how much of the kata you can do with a bo. Time a space to work it out required!!!
Uke sweeps the assault to the outside along with his left hand simultaneously striking Tori in the throat along with his right hand
(palm up to follow the kata). Uke then slides the striking hand behind Toriâ head. Uke then steps his rear leg back across his own body as he changes the direction of his assault & throws Tori head first in to the floor. Or basically takes him down & applies an arm bar.
