Sensei Stephen Goodhand |
| Steve Goodhand has been involved in martial arts most of his life, starting in Lowestoft doing Dragon Style Kung Fu. Unfortunately the club closed because of the sifu's personal pressures. Then Steve continued training in a variety of different martial arts clubs, ranging from Karate, Ju Jitsu, Tae Kwon Do and Kung Fu. However he never quite found his passion as he did in the Dragon Style club. So himself and some of his colleagues pursued their own martial studies. Steve and his colleagues would study their own form of reality combat(Jeet Kun Do), from influences and techniques from kung fu, karate and grappling. Steve then moved to Sheffield and continued to train with a variety of martial artists and clubs such as Shooto (shoot fighting), Jeet Kun Do and Aikido. Steve left Sheffield to work and study film at Bournemouth. It was there that he made a Shotokan Karate DVD with instructors he knew from Lowestoft. The person he worked closely with was a friend of his, Sensei Matthew Beardon. They discussed the shotokan system and Steve realised that true shotokan has a combination of effective elements of martial arts and was not just a simple linear striking system he once thought. Steve immediately began studying Shotokan and found the style helped to develop his power and skill, as well as expanding his theories of technique and bunkai (application). Steve continues to practice and teach all the practical dimenstions of martial arts. He believes that most of the core martial arts contain the techniques necessary for self preservation and personal enlightenment. |
